19th century novelist George Eliot (aka Mary Anne Evans Lewes), the author of Middlemarch.

She had a laser eye for human thought and behavior - even the "villains" of her books think and feel in a way that you recognize as your own.

Anyway. Eliot created a series of passionate heroines who strive to be virtuous, to accomplish, to study and learn, and to make choices with all of their hearts in spite of betrayals and disappointments. So a mixture of imagery from St.George (ha) and St.Michael seemed appropriate.
