Samples from Au Pays d’en Haut (In the High Country) is an educational fiction serial for young audiences, written and art-directed by Mike Peterson of Teachup Serial Stories. Set in early 19th century French Canada, it follows the adventures of a young Quebecois voyageur tasked with canoeing into the Northern wilderness on a trading mission. Publication required that the illustrations work equally well in greyscale and in color, which is always a fun challenge.

The artwork here is entirely digital, but I wanted the linework to resemble charcoal and other natural media, to convey some of the improvisatory roughness of the setting!
