Yep, after a week in which you all were so wonderful as to fund the print run for Family Man with your preorders (it passed 100% early in the weekend!), I have come down sick. So this page is a few hours late, and I am now headed back to bed in hopes of healing up so I don’t sneeze my way through several deadlines and major events this month.

I’ll be more voluble as soon as I get another few dozen hours of sleep! In the meantime, enjoy this week’s page. *sneeze*

Holy dang.

It is late (for reasons of Pre-Order Madness), but by gum, here is a page!  I cannot ask the internet for money and then totally flake on this week’s update.  It would be Somehow Wrong.

But yes, about that.

As most of you know, I opened up pre-orders for the Family Man Volume I book this past Monday. I was really completely terrified that I’d have three very nice people (two possibly being blood relatives) take me up on the offer and that I’d be spending my spring desperately trying to figure out how to cobble together $10,000 for a print run.

Well, the joke is on me: It’s been four days and over 85% has already been contributed. This means I’ve gotten to sign off with my printer, set a press date and will spend the next month Making A Book instead of Worrying About Making A Book.

I really don’t have adequate words to thank you all. I figure I’ll just send you all a book, instead.

For those of you who are waiting on a paycheck to get a copy, don’t worry, pre-orders will be available until I actually get the books! although the special hootchy fancy packages are running out (we’re down to 36!). They are all right here.

Thank you all dreadfully. And now: more comics.

Family Man pre-orders are live!

The time is upon us, or rather, me:  the first two chapters of Family Man are coming into print as Family Man Volume I.

I’ve drawn two complete chapters, learned through experience how to design, print, publish, and ship books.  All that remains is for me to finishing laying out the book and design a really snappy cover!

Book Only!

Oh, yes, well, also, to raise the moneyIt’s going to cost me $10,000 US to print this book the way it deserves, and I’m just too much of a self-employed 26 year-old artist to have that kind of scratch lying around the house.

So I need your help. For the last four years I’ve kept the comic 100% free of advertising and have never solicited donations to keep it running.  If you’ve enjoyed it and have been looking for a way to support the project, this is your chance. I’ve put together a bunch of packaged options for pre-ordering the book, to suit any budget and degree of fervor, and I think they are genuinely pretty damn cool. You will like them!  They are neat!

So, without further ado:

Pre-order your copy now.

Kali Ciesemier is absolutely nailing her illustrations for Garth Nix’s wonderful dark fantasy YA novel, Sabriel, over at Picture Book Report.  Arg!  So lovely!

Revolutionary stuff, y’all.  When the comic takes place, the concept of the card catalogue was still just a glimmer in the eye of the increasingly moribund French state.

BUT, MORE PERTINENTLY:

Beginning on Monday, April 5th (Easter Monday and the last or penultimate day of Passover, depending on your affiliations), pre-orders for the first print edition volume of Family Man will go on sale in my store.

Copies will start at $20 (+$5 s/h) for the basic model and go higher for increased fanciness!  The book alone is going to be an 8.5×11″ glossy sepia beast.

The pre-orders will directly fund the print run, so if you’ve been looking for a way to support the comic, this is how to do it!  I can’t print it unless I get an enthusiastic turnout from you, dear readers.

I’m aiming for a July release, with the book debuting for the general public at the San Diego Comic-con.  Pre-ordered copies will go out as soon as I get ’em in, so if you want the jump on the rest of the world, mark your calendars for Monday!

…Christ, I’m nervous.
