A few drawings from the last 48 hours, which you might have seen if you follow me on Tumblr, Flickr, or Twitter! The first couple are taken with Instagram, which is really a fun tool for documenting sketches and scribbles. (If you have the app, my username is dmeconis.)
Tiny paintings! These are the ooooonly ones left from nearly twenty that I made for sale at conventions this year. They’re all 2.5×3.5” (artist trading card size) watercolor originals.
Wouldn’t one of them look nice on your desk? For under $20? Yes. Yes is the answer. They’re in my Etsy store now!
I’m in the process of making a thing, and that thing involves drawing the characters from Bite Me! I don’t think I’ve drawn them in at least a couple of years. It’s like riding a bicycle. A very goofy bicycle.
The most fun part is transposingthem to another period. Ah, the 1940s; the last time everybody had good hair. I grew up watching Humphrey Bogart movies, so it all feels very cozy and familiar.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Portland Opera “Drink and Draw and Tweet” event – where a bunch of cartoonists and bloggers are invited to attend the dress rehearsal of the latest production and record their impressions. This time we all got to see Leonard Bernstein’s operetta Candide. A big treat for me, since I’ve read Voltaire’s book multiple times over the course of my education.
It’s a wickedly black comedy and a great show. I had a blast and filled almost a quarter of a sketchbook with doodles! Below, for your perusal. (Or see it as a set on Flickr.)
Happy 2012, all! I am kicking off the new year with this scene, which is going to be A Thing. Oh yes; it is going to be A Thing. I apologize to those of you who track updates by way of WordPress/Livejournal; last week’s post got eaten, so if you missed it, you’ll want to backtrack and read the last page of 2011.
Thank you to everybody who bought stuff from my Etsy store this past week – the cash infusion was welcome, and I’ve been having a lot of fun sending out art both long-finished and brand-new to good homes. Everything should be in the mail by Monday! Depending on my workload I might put up some more items in the store this week, so keep your eyes peeled.
